4.31

上堂趙州到雲居。居云。老老大大。何不覓箇住處。州云。教某甲向甚麼處住。居云。山前有古寺基。州云。和尚何不自在。居便休去。師云。爾也住我也住。十方三世。一時揑聚。月醉雲酣離水犀。轉身觸倒珊瑚樹。

Ascending the hall, [the Master said]: "Zhaozhou went to Yunju. Yunju said, 'Old and aged as you are, why don't you look for a place to stay?' Zhou said, 'Where would you instruct this one to stay?' Yunju said, 'In front of the mountain there is the site of an ancient temple.' Zhou said, 'Preceptor, why don't you be at ease yourself?' Yunju then dropped it." The Master said: "You stay, and I stay too; / the ten directions and three periods are pinched together at once. / Moon-drunk and cloud-intoxicated, the rhinoceros leaves the water; / turning its body, it knocks down the coral tree."
