4.37

上堂云。菩提無樹鏡非臺。虛淨光明不受埃。照處易分雪裏粉。轉時難辨墨中煤。鳥歸無影樹頭宿。華在不萠枝上開。際會風雲底時節。寒梭出蟄一聲雷參。

Ascending the hall, [the Master] said: "Bodhi originally has no tree, and the mirror is not a stand. / Emptiness and pure radiance receive no dust. / In the illumination, it is easy to tell flour from snow; / In turning around, it is hard to distinguish coal from ink. / Birds return to roost atop the shadowless tree; / Flowers blossom upon the branch that does not bud. / At the time when wind and clouds meet, / The cold weaver's shuttle emerges from hibernation with a crack of thunder. Examine!"
