上堂云。舌頭一臠肉。口唇兩片皮。其間無固必。分外莫猜疑。趙州古佛。雲門聖師。歷歷機頭不掛絲。自然。桃李成蹊去。那是春風作意吹。

Ascending the hall, [the Master] said: "The tongue is a lump of meat, the lips two pieces of skin. Between them there is no stubborn fixedness; do not harbor extraneous doubts. Zhaozhou the ancient Buddha, Yunmen the sacred teacher—clearly, at the dynamic turning point, not a single thread hangs. Naturally, peaches and plums form a path below; how could the spring wind blow with deliberate intent?"
