9.498

雲石雪松。歲寒之友從。曉月霜鐘。清白之音容。
自樂也村歌社舞。平懷也牧笛歸農。暴雨卒風。
潛神堂而避陣。吼雷掣電。戰禪席而交鋒。
十分閑暇。一等疎慵。青山白雲之去就。浮萍流水之行蹤。
披霧變文豹。吟雲蛻骨龍。身老藝孤兮難其授子。
智齊德半兮未可傳宗。

Clouds, rocks, snow, and pines:
Companions in the cold of the year.
Morning moon and frosted bell:
Purity and whiteness in sound and appearance.
Joyful of his own accord in village songs and community dances;
Placid in heart with the herdsman's flute returning to farm.
Sudden rain and violent winds—
He conceals his spirit in the hall to avoid the battle array;
Roaring thunder and flashing lightning—
He fights on the Chan mat, crossing blades.
Utterly leisurely,
Thoroughly unconstrained.
The coming and going of blue mountains and white clouds;
The traces of floating duckweed and flowing water.
Parting the mist, he transforms into a patterned leopard;
Chanting to the clouds, the dragon molts its bones.
Old in body and solitary in art, it is hard to pass it down to disciples;
Though wisdom matches, virtue is only half—the lineage cannot yet be transmitted.
