天童乞食于黃巖。用祥上人。出六代祖師畫像。以贊見託。原所以為祖者。直明第一頭事。因緣建立。皆兒孫分上。祖不云乎。不與凡聖同躔。超然名之曰祖。繁枝遠派。應化機用。妙得根源。自然隨順。斯不言可諭。茲幸隨喜稽首贊云。

When Tiantong was begging for food in Huangyan, Superior Yongxiang brought out portraits of the Six Generations of Patriarchs and entrusted me to compose eulogies for them. Investigating the reason why they became patriarchs: they directly illuminated the primary matter. The establishment of causal conditions is entirely the business of descendants. Did not the Patriarch say: 'Not walking in the same tracks as ordinary people and sages, transcendently he is named Patriarch'? The luxuriant branches and distant streams, responding to dynamic functions, wondrously attain the root source and naturally accord with it. This can be understood without words. Now, happily rejoicing and bowing my head, I offer this eulogy:
