He also cited: "Zhaozhou asked a monk, 'Have you ever been here?' The monk said, 'I have.' Zhaozhou said, 'Go drink tea.' He asked another monk, 'Have you ever been here?' The monk said, 'I have not.' Zhaozhou said, 'Go drink tea.'" The Master said: "Having been here or not having been here, drinking tea is the same. Not employing traps, having no artifice whatsoever. Yet this is not an ordinary family tradition; how could it be following the waves and chasing the billows? Only disliking selection without explanation, one recognizes old Venerable Zhaozhou."
