[The Master] cited: Zhaozhou and Attendant Yuan competed in inferiority rather than superiority. Zhaozhou said, "I am like a donkey." The attendant said, "I am like a donkey's stomach." Zhaozhou said, "I am like donkey dung." The attendant said, "I am like a worm in the dung." Zhaozhou said, "What are you doing in there?" The attendant said, "Spending the summer." Zhaozhou said, "Bring the flatbread over." The Master said, "Held high, it cannot be marked out; held low, it cannot be reached by looking. The eye naturally secures the initiative; the tally is won by making a capture."
