2.29

開爐。上堂。召大眾打圓相云。箇是天童。火爐。近前則燒殺。退後則凍殺。忽有箇漢。出來道合作麼生。㘞火爐動也。

Lighting the stove, he ascended the hall.
He summoned the great assembly, drew a circle, and said:
"This is Tiantong's fire stove.
Step close and you are burned to death;
step back and you are frozen to death.
If a fellow suddenly comes out and says, 'What should be done?'—
Ha! The fire stove moved!"
