Ascending the hall, [the Master said]: "Chanting praises atop the bell tower; / Planting vegetables beneath the bed legs. / Not understanding is not being at ease; / Understanding is an obstruction. / But what should be done? / The white dog eats raw ginger; / The barbarian crosses the pass by night. / Bah! / If one does not gain the flowing water, / One must still pass beyond another mountain."
