Gathering his robes, he took his seat and said, "With questioning and answering, excrement and urine are strewn about in disarray. Without questioning and answering, thunderbolts and lightning crash. Thereupon the eyebrows are delighted and the nostrils held high, directly causing the great earth to sink flat and empty space to burst open. Right at such a time, let us meet with the ancient Buddha Hongzhi." Raising his whisk, he said, "Having already met, what should we discuss? / In the past, his sweat-drenched steed was recognized by none; / One need only speak anew of his era-covering achievements. / Even so, what about the phrase 'knowing kindness and repaying kindness'? / Waves across the four seas are calm, the dragon sleeps soundly; / Clouds across the nine heavens are clear, the crane grazes the sky."
