1.34

去却一（七穿八穴。向什麼處去。放過一着）拈得七（拈不出。却不放過）上下四維無等匹（何似生。上是天下是地。東南西北與四維。有什麼等匹。爭奈拄杖在我手裏）
徐行踏斷流水聲（莫問脚跟下。難為體究。打入葛藤窟裏。去了也）
縱觀寫出飛禽跡（眼裏亦無此消息野狐精見解。依前只在舊窠窟裏）草茸茸（腦後拔箭。是什麼消息。墮在平實處）
煙羃羃（未出這窠窟。足下雲生）空生巖畔花狼籍（在什麼處。不唧𠺕漢。勘破了也）
彈指堪悲舜若多（四方八面盡法界。向舜若多鼻孔裏道將一句來。在什麼處）
莫動著（前言何在。動著時如何）
動著三十棒（自領出去。便打）

Cast away one, (Pierced through seven and eight holes. Where will you go? Letting a move go.)
Pick up seven: (Cannot pick it out. Yet he does not let it go.)
Above, below, and in the four cardinal and four intermediate directions, nothing is its equal. (What is it like? Above is heaven, below is earth; east, south, west, north, and the four intermediate directions—what can be equal to it? Nevertheless, the staff is in my hand.)
Walking slowly, one steps and cuts off the sound of flowing water; (Do not ask under your heels. Difficult to investigate. Cast into the cave of entangling vines, gone!)
Looking freely, one traces out the tracks of flying birds. (In the eyes there is also no such news. A wild fox spirit's view. As before, still in the old nest.)
Grasses lush, (Pulling out an arrow from behind the head. What news is this? Fallen into a flat, solid place.)
Fog dense— (Has not left this nest. Beneath the feet, clouds arise.)
Beside the cliff of Śūnyatā, flowers fall in profusion. (Where is it? A dull fellow. Seen through!)
Snapping the fingers, how lamentable is Śūnyatā! (The eight directions, all four quarters, exhaustively the Dharma realm: toward the nostrils of Śūnyatā, bring forth a phrase! Where is it?)
Do not stir! (Where are the previous words? When stirred, what then?)
If you stir, thirty blows of the staff! (Accept it yourself and go out; then strike!)
