3.37

祖佛從來不為人（各自守疆界。有條攀條。記得箇元字脚在心。入地獄如箭）
衲僧今古競頭走（踏破草鞋。拗折拄杖。高掛鉢囊）明鏡當臺列像殊（墮也。破也。打破鏡來與爾相見）
一一面南看北斗（還見老僧騎佛殿出山門麼。新羅國裏曾上堂。大唐國裏未打鼓）
斗柄垂（落處也不知。在什麼處）
無處討（瞎。可惜許。椀子落地。楪子成七八片）拈得鼻孔失却口（那裏得這消息來。果然恁麼。便打）

Patriarchs and Buddhas have never acted for people (Each guards his own boundary. / Following the branch and clinging to the branch. / Remembering the base of the character 'yuan' in mind. / Entering hell like an arrow.), / Patch-robed monks through ancient and modern compete to run headlong (Wearing out straw sandals, snapping carrying poles, hanging high the alms bowls.).
The bright mirror on the stand displays differing forms (Fallen! Broken! / Smashing the mirror, I'll meet with you.): / Each faces south to look at the Northern Dipper (Do you see this old monk riding the Buddha hall out the mountain gate? / In the kingdom of Silla he once ascended the hall; in the Great Tang they have not yet beaten the drum.).
The Dipper handle hangs down (Not even knowing where it drops. / Where is it?)— / There is no place to search (Blind! What a pity. / The bowl falls to the ground; the saucer shatters into seven or eight pieces.). / Taking hold of the nostrils, one loses the mouth (Where did he get this news? / Indeed it is thus. / Give him a blow!).
