3.40

【二九】舉。僧問大隋。劫火洞然大千俱壞。未審這箇壞不壞（這箇是什麼物。這一句天下衲僧摸索不著。預搔待痒）隋云。壞（無孔鐵鎚當面擲。沒却鼻孔。未開口已前勘破了也）僧云。恁麼則隨他去也（沒量大人語脈裏轉却。果然錯認）隋云。隨他去（前箭猶輕。後箭深。只這箇多少人。摸索不著。水長船高。泥多佛大。若道隨他去。在什麼處。若道不隨他去。又作麼生。便打）。

[29] Case: A monk asked Dasui: "When the kalpa-fire blazes through and the great trichiliocosm is entirely destroyed, I wonder, is this one destroyed or not?" (What thing is this one? This phrase is something patch-robed monks under heaven cannot grope out. Scratching in advance to await the itch.) / Sui said: "Destroyed." (An iron hammer without a hole thrown right at the face. Sunk his nostrils. Before he opened his mouth, he was already thoroughly tested and examined.) / The monk said: "If so, then it goes along with it?" (A great person beyond measure turned around in the vein of words. Sure enough, he mistook it.) / Sui said: "It goes along with it." (The first arrow was still light; the second arrow struck deep. Just this one, how many people cannot grope it out? When the water rises the boat floats high; when there is much mud the Buddha is big. If you say it goes along with it, where is it? If you say it does not go along with it, what then? Strike!)
