[34] Case: Yangshan asked a monk, "Where have you recently come from?" (People throughout the world are the same. It is necessary to ask. Blowing on the fire as the wind allows; one cannot fail to follow the usual routine.)
The monk said, "From Mount Lu." (A sincere person is rare.)
Shan said, "Have you ever visited the Five Old Men Peaks?" (One may well swing one's arms while walking; when has it ever been missed?)
The monk said, "I have never been there." (Moved a step. A red face is not as good as straight speech. It seems like forgetting what was before and losing what was after.)
Shan said, "You have not visited the mountain, Ācārya." (Too meddlesome! Better to spare your eyebrows. What is this old fellow in such a rush for?)
Yunmen said, "These words were entirely for the sake of compassion, so there was talk of falling into the weeds." (The sword that kills people, the sword that brings people to life. Two or three. If you want to know the road on the mountain, you must be someone who has come and gone.)
