麈中麈（高著眼看。擎頭戴角去也）君看取（何似生第二頭走。要射便射。看作什麼）
下一箭（中也。須知藥山好手）走三步（活鱍鱍地。只得三步。死了多時）五步若活（作什麼。跳百步。忽有箇死中得活時如何）
成群趁虎（二俱並照。須與他倒退始得。天下衲僧放他出頭。也只在草窠裏）
正眼從來付獵人（爭奈藥山未肯承當這話。藥山則故是雪竇又作麼生。也不干藥山事。也不干雪竇事。也不干山僧事。也不干上座事）
雪竇高聲云。看箭（一狀領過。也須與他倒退始得。打云。已塞却爾咽喉了也）

"The elk among elks— (Look with eyes raised high. He goes off brandishing his horns on his head.) / Look at it, sir! (What is it like? Running off toward secondary heads. If you want to shoot, then shoot; what are you looking for?) / Releasing one arrow, (Hit! One must recognize Yaoshan's skilled hand.) / He runs three paces; (Alive and kicking. He manages only three paces; he has been dead for a long time.) / If he lives at five paces, (What are you doing? Leaping a hundred paces. What if someone suddenly gains life in the midst of death?) / He will chase the tiger with the herd. (Both are simultaneously illuminated. One must step back for him. Even if patch-robed monks of the world let him stick his head out, it is still only in the thicket of grass.) / From the start, the true eye has been entrusted to the hunter." (Yet Yaoshan was not willing to accept these words. Yaoshan is already like this; what about Xuedou? It is none of Yaoshan's business, none of Xuedou's business, none of this mountain monk's business, and none of your business, elder.) / Xuedou raised his voice and said, "Watch the arrow!" (Accepted in a single deposition. One must also step back for him. Striking, he said: It has already blocked your throat!)
