問曾不知（東西不辨。弄物不知名。買㡌相頭）答還不會（南北不分。換却髑髏。江南江北）
月冷風高（何似生。今日正當這時節。天下人有眼不曾見。有耳不曾聞）
古巖寒檜（不雨時更好。無孔笛子撞著氈拍板）堪笑路逢達道人（也須是親到這裏始得。還我拄杖子來。成群作隊恁麼來）
不將語默對（向什麼處見大龍。將箇什麼對他好）
手把白玉鞭（一至七拗折了也）驪珠盡擊碎（留與後人看。可惜許）
不擊碎（放過一著。又恁麼去）增瑕纇（弄泥團作什麼。轉見郎當。過犯彌天）
國有憲章（識法者懼。朝打三千暮打八百）三千條罪（只道得一半在。八萬四千無量劫來墮無間業。也未還得一半在）

The questioner never knew; (East and west not distinguished. Playing with an object without knowing its name. Buying a hat according to the head.) / The answerer still did not understand. (North and south not divided. Exchanging the skull. South of the river, north of the river.)
Cold moon, high wind; (What is it like? Today is just such a time. People of the world have eyes yet have never seen it; they have ears yet have never heard it.)
An ancient crag, a chilly cypress. (Even better when it is not raining. A holeless flute hits a felt clapper.) / How laughable: encountering a person of the Way on the road, (You must arrive here in person to attain it. Give me back my staff! Coming like this in droves.)
Not greeting them with speech or silence. (At what place do you see Dalong? With what should you greet him?)
Holding a white jade whip in hand, (From one to seven, broken off.) / He smashed every black dragon pearl to pieces. (Leave them for later generations to see. A pity!)
If not smashed to pieces, (Letting a move pass by. Going like that again.) / Flaws and blemishes will multiply. (What are you doing playing with mud balls? Even more sloppy. A crime filling heaven.)
The state has its statutes— (Those who know the law are fearful. Three thousand blows in the morning, eight hundred in the evening.) / Three thousand crimes. (You have only spoken half of it. From eighty-four thousand immeasurable kalpas falling into avīci karma, not even half has been repaid.)
