[93] Case: A monk asked Daguang, "Changqing said, 'Rejoicing on occasion of the meal'—what is the meaning?" (Bringing light again to this lacquer bucket. No harm in doubting it. Without asking, one does not know.)
Daguang danced. (Do not deceive people to death. Just as before, coming like this.)
The monk bowed. (Going like this again. Right though it is, I fear he misunderstood.)
Guang said, "What did you see that you bow?" (A good press. One must test and distinguish before it is settled.)
The monk danced. (Painting a cat according to the pattern. Truly misunderstood. A fellow playing with shadows.)
Guang said, "This wild fox spirit!" (This kindness is hard to repay. The thirty-two ancestors only transmitted this.)
