舉。臨濟示眾云。有一無位真人（安基定脚了也）常向汝等面門出入（背後底聻）初心未證據者看看（還具眼麼）時有僧問。如何是無位真人（還解語麼）濟下禪床擒住（爾更諱）這僧擬議（鈍滯他真人）濟托開云。無位真人。是甚乾屎橛（大似持鉢不得）。

Case: Linji instructed the assembly, saying: 'There is a true person without status (The foundation has been laid and the feet planted) constantly going out and in through the gates of your faces. (What about behind your backs?) Those beginners who have not yet verified this, look, look!' (Do you still have eyes?) At that time, a monk asked, 'What is the true person without status?' (Do you still understand words?) Linji came down from the meditation seat and grabbed him: (You would deny it further!) The monk hesitated. (Stifling that true person!) Linji pushed him away, saying, 'The true person without status—what kind of dried shit-scraper is it!' (Much like failing to carry the alms bowl.)
