Wumen said: "Yunmen immediately gave him the proper fodder at that time, causing Dongshan to have a separate path of vitality, so that his family house would not fall into desolation. For one night, Dongshan was trapped in a sea of right and wrong, until daybreak, when he came again and Yunmen explained it away for him. That Dongshan awakened directly was not rashness. Let me ask you all: did Dongshan deserve to receive the three score blows or not? If you say he deserved them, all the grasses, trees, and groves deserve to receive blows. If you say he did not deserve them, Yunmen was speaking falsely again. If you clarify it here, you will finally breathe the same breath as Dongshan."
