孜云。賓中問主互換之機。主中問賓同生同死。主中辨主。飲氣吞聲。賓中覓賓。白雲萬里。故句中無意。意在句中。於斯明得。一雙孤雁。撲地高飛。於斯不明。一對鴛鴦。池中獨立。知音禪客。相與證明。影響之流。切須子細。良久云。若是陶淵明。攢眉便歸去。

Zi said: "Asking about the host within the guest is the dynamic of mutual interchange. Asking about the guest within the host is living together and dying together. Distinguishing the host within the host is holding one's breath and swallowing one's voice. Searching for the guest within the guest is white clouds for ten thousand miles. Therefore, within the phrase there is no intention; the intention lies within the phrase. If you understand this clearly, a pair of solitary wild geese strike the ground and fly high. If you do not understand this, a pair of mandarin ducks stand alone in the pond. Zen practitioners who recognize the tune, attest to this with one another. Those of the superficial sort, you must be extremely careful." After a long pause, he said, "Were it Tao Yuanming, he would knit his brows and immediately return home."
