汾陽云。大意除實問默問難辨。須識來意。餘者總有時節。言說淺深相度祗應。不得妄生穿鑿。彼此無利益。雖是善因。而招惡果。切須子細。

Fenyang said, "The main idea is that except for actual questions and silent questions, which are difficult to distinguish, one must recognize the intent behind their coming. All the others have their seasons and occasions. Weigh the shallowness or depth of their speech and respond accordingly. You must not give rise to far-fetched interpretations at random; it would benefit neither party. Though it be a good cause, it invites an evil result. You must be extremely careful."
