浮山每於示徒之際。遍舉宗門語句。而學者編集。乞師名之。師因其類聚。目之曰佛禪宗教義九帶集。蓋擬班固九流之作也。

Whenever Fushan instructed his disciples, he cited the sayings of the lineage widely. Students compiled them and requested that the Master give them a title. Based on their categories, the Master titled it *Collection of the Nine Girdles of the Essential Doctrines of the Buddha-Zen School*, presumably modeled after Ban Gu's work on the Nine Streams.
