汾陽示眾云。汾陽有三訣。衲僧難辨別。擬議問如何。拄杖驀頭楔。僧問。如何是三訣。師便打。僧禮拜。汾云。與汝頌出。

Fenyang instructed the assembly, saying: “Fenyang has Three Secrets; patch-robed monks find them difficult to discern. Hesitating to ask how, the staff immediately strikes like a wedge into the head.” A monk asked: “What are the Three Secrets?” The Master immediately struck him. The monk bowed. Fen[yang] said: “I will utter verses for you.”
