師諱文益。餘杭魯氏子。得法於漳州羅漢琛禪師。初住撫州崇壽。次住建康清涼。大振雪峯玄沙之道。示寂後李後主。諡曰大法眼禪師。

The Master's taboo name was Wenyi, a son of the Lu family of Yuhang. He attained the Dharma from Chan Master Luohan Chen of Zhangzhou. At first he resided at Chongshou in Fuzhou, and later resided at Qingliang in Jiankang. He greatly revitalized the Way of Xuefeng and Xuansha. After he showed nirvāṇa, the Latter Lord Li bestowed the posthumous title 'Chan Master of the Great Dharma Eye' [Da Fayan].
