僧問。師子未出窟時如何明云。清風匝地。恩云。鋒鋩難繫。出窟後如何。明云。群狐腦裂。恩云。藏身無路。欲出未出時如何。明云嗄。恩云。命若懸絲。

A monk asked, 'What is it like when the lion has not yet emerged from its den?' / Ming said, 'A pure breeze sweeps the earth.' / En said, 'Its sharp point is hard to tether.' / 'What is it like after it has emerged from the den?' / Ming said, 'The brains of the pack of foxes split open.' / En said, 'No way to hide the body.' / 'What is it like when it is about to emerge but has not yet emerged?' / Ming said, 'Ha!' / En said, 'Life hanging by a thread.'
