僧問。寶劍未出匣時如何。印云澁。柱云。如今朝代無人問（朝一作昭）巖云。切忌道著。宗云。寒光射斗牛。出匣後如何。印云利柱云。萬里山河道太平。巖云。天魔膽裂。宗云。千兵易得。一將難求。

A monk asked, "What is it like when the precious sword has not yet left the scabbard?"
Yin said, "Blunt."
Zhu said, "In our present dynasty, no one asks." (One source has *zhao* [bright] instead of *chao* [dynasty].)
Yan said, "Take great care not to speak of it!"
Zong said, "Its cold gleam shoots towards the Big Dipper and the Ox."
"What is it like after it has left the scabbard?"
Yin said, "Sharp."
Zhu said, "Across ten thousand miles of mountains and rivers, all proclaim great peace."
Yan said, "The heavenly demons' gallbladders burst."
Zong said, "A thousand soldiers are easy to find, but a single general is hard to seek."
