Fushan said: 'According to the consummate Dharma gate, there are originally ten belts. Now these nine belts have already been explained to you all. There is still one more belt: do you see it? If you see it intimately and clearly, please step forward and speak of it. If what you say corresponds, then it penetrates through the previous nine belts, and your eye of the Way will be perfectly clear. If you do not see it intimately and what you say does not correspond, but merely rely on my words as your own understanding, this is called slandering the Dharma, and there is no truth in it. Coming to this point, what will you all do?' The assembly was utterly at a loss. The master thereupon shouted and dispersed them.
