The venerable master was originally a man of Qujiang County in Shaozhou. The Tathāgata entered nirvāṇa, and the Dharma teaching flowed to the eastern land; together they transmitted the non-abiding mind, which is our mind's non-abiding. This is what true bodhisattvas teach, both real and metaphorical; teaching only people of great wisdom, non-abiding is the tenet's reliance. Only when one takes vows to cultivate, encounters hardships in cultivation without retreating, can endure suffering, and has profound merit and virtue, should one be granted this Dharma. If one's faculty and nature are inadequate, unable to measure it, and though seeking this Dharma one cannot establish it, one must not rashly entrust the Platform Sūtra to them. I announce this to all fellow followers of the path, so that they may know the esoteric meaning.
