"When mastery of speech and mastery of mind are attained, / It is like the sun dwelling in empty space. / Only the Dharma of seeing into one's nature is transmitted, / Appearing in the world to destroy false sects.
The Dharma has neither sudden nor gradual, / But delusion and awakening have slow and fast. / Only this gate of seeing into one's nature / Foolish people cannot comprehend.
Though explanations take myriad forms, / When accord with the principle is reached, they return to the one. / In the dark house of afflictions, / The sun of wisdom must constantly be born.
When falsehood arrives, afflictions come; / When correctness arrives, afflictions are eliminated. / When neither false nor correct are used, / Purity reaches the remainderless.
Bodhi is fundamentally svabhāva; / Giving rise to thought is immediately delusion. / The pure mind is within delusion; / Merely be correct and the three obstructions will be gone.
If worldly people cultivate the Way, / Nothing at all stands in their way. / Constantly see your own faults, / And you will accord with the Way.
Beings of form each have their own Way, / None hindering or troubling one another. / Leaving the Way to seek another Way, / One will never see the Way in this whole life.
Drifting through life in vain, / In the end one is full of self-remorse. / If you wish to see the true Way, / Acting correctly is itself the Way.
If you yourself lack the mind for the Way, / Walking in darkness you will not see the Way. / A true cultivator of the Way / Does not see the faults of the world.
If you see the wrongs of others, / Your own wrong is an error. / When others are wrong and I am not wrong, / My taking them as wrong is my own fault.
Merely discard the wrong-finding mind yourself; / Strike down and break afflictions. / When hatred and love do not touch the heart, / Lie down with both legs stretched out.
If you intend to transform others, / You yourself must possess skillful means. / Do not let them have doubts; / That is svabhāva becoming manifest.
The Buddha-Dharma is in the world; / Awakening is not separate from the world. / Seeking bodhi apart from the world / Is just like looking for a rabbit's horn.
Right view is called transcending the world; / Wrong view is worldly. / When right and wrong are completely struck down, / The bodhi-nature is fully evident.
This verse is the sudden teaching, / Also called the great Dharma boat. / In delusion one hears it over multiple kalpas; / Awakened, it is in a single instant."
