The Master instructed the assembly, saying: "In this gate, seated meditation originally does not attach to the mind, nor does it attach to purity, nor is it immobility. If one speaks of attaching to the mind, the mind is originally false; knowing that the mind is like an illusion, there is therefore nothing to attach to. If one speaks of attaching to purity, human nature is fundamentally pure; it is because of false thoughts that tathatā is covered over. If only there are no false thoughts, the nature is pure of itself. Producing a thought to attach to purity instead gives rise to the falsehood of purity. Falsehood has no location; that which attaches is falsehood. Purity has no shape or characteristics, yet one establishes a characteristic of purity and calls it spiritual work. Those who hold this view obstruct their own fundamental nature and are bound by purity. Good friends! If you cultivate immobility, simply when seeing all people, not seeing people's rights and wrongs, good and evil, faults and errors—this is the immobility of svabhāva. Good friends! Though the bodies of deluded people do not move, when they open their mouths they speak of other people's rights and wrongs, strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes, which runs contrary to the Way. Attaching to the mind and attaching to purity obstructs the Way."
