Question: How can one single method encompass all methods? Answer: The mind is the root of the myriad dharmas; all dharmas are produced only by the mind. If one can understand the mind, then the myriad dharmas will all be complete, just like a great tree whose branches, flowers, and fruits are all born from the root, and if the tree is chopped down and its root removed, it must die. If one understands the mind and cultivates the path, it takes little effort and is easy to accomplish; if one does not understand the mind and cultivates the path, it wastes effort and brings no benefit. Therefore know that all good and evil come from one's own mind. Seeking separately outside the mind will never be right.
