問。若欲明宗。只合純提祖意。何用兼引諸佛菩薩言教。以為指南。故宗門中云。借蝦為眼。無自己分。只成文字聖人。不入祖位。

Question: If one wishes to clarify the source, one should only purely bring forward the ancestral intent. What need is there to also cite the verbal teachings of the Buddhas and bodhisattvas as a guide? Thus in the lineage of the source it is said: "Borrowing the shrimp to serve as eyes, one has no part of one's own; one only becomes a sage of written words and does not enter the ancestral rank."
