夫初祖西來。唯傳一心之法。二祖求緣慮不安之心不得。即知唯一真心圓成周遍。當下言思道斷。達磨印可。遂得祖印大行。迄至今日。云何著於言說。違背自宗。義學三乘。自有階等。

The First Patriarch came from the west transmitting only the Dharma of the one mind. When the Second Patriarch sought the agitated, conceptualizing citta and could not find it, he immediately knew that only the one true citta is perfectly accomplished and all-pervasive; right then the path of words and thoughts was severed, and Bodhidharma granted his seal of approval, whereupon the patriarchal seal came into great circulation down to the present day. Why do you attach to verbal explanations, running counter to your own school? The doctrinal study of the triyāna naturally has its stages and ranks.
