問。何不依自禪宗。躡玄學正路。但一切處無著。放曠任緣。無作無修。自然合道。何必拘懷局志。徇義迷文。可謂棄靜求喧厭同好異。

Question: Why not rely on one's own Chan tradition and tread the correct path of the profound study: simply being unattached in all places, freely roaming and giving oneself over to conditions, with non-action and non-cultivation, naturally tallying with the Way? Why must one constrain the mind and narrow the resolve, subservient to meanings and lost in texts? This may be called abandoning stillness to seek clamor, disliking identity and liking difference.
