答。論云。諸有漏種。與異熟識體無別故。無記性攝。因果俱有善等性故。亦名善等。諸無漏種。非異熟識。性所攝故。因果俱是善性攝故。唯名為善。釋云。此有漏種。與本第八識體無別故。性類是同。唯是無記。若能所生法。皆通善等三性。謂此種子。本能熏習。現行之因。及後所生。現行之果。皆通三性故。言因果俱善等性。即是功能差別門說。非依體門。性唯無記。此約有漏種說。若無漏種。非異熟性所攝故。故非無記。體性不順本識體故。體既不同。不可相即。又性類別。能治所治。漏無漏殊。不可相即。

Answer: The treatise says: 'Because all contaminated seeds are not distinct in substance from the maturation consciousness, they are subsumed under the indeterminate nature. Because cause and fruition both possess wholesome and other natures, they are also called wholesome and so forth. Because all uncontaminated seeds are not subsumed under the nature of the maturation consciousness, and because cause and fruition are both subsumed under the wholesome nature, they are called exclusively wholesome.' The commentary explains: 'Because these contaminated seeds are not distinct in substance from the root eighth consciousness, their category of nature is the same, being exclusively indeterminate. But the dharmas they can produce and are produced by extend to all three natures, wholesome and the rest. That is, these seeds originally can perfume the causes of active manifestations, and their subsequently produced fruitions of active manifestations also extend to the three natures; therefore it is said that "cause and fruition both possess wholesome and other natures"—this is stated from the perspective of functional distinctions, not from the perspective of substance; in substance they are exclusively indeterminate. This is stated with respect to contaminated seeds. If they are uncontaminated seeds, because they are not subsumed under the nature of maturation, they are not indeterminate. Their substance and nature do not accord with the substance of the root consciousness; since their substances are not the same, they cannot be mutually identical. Furthermore, their categories of nature differ: antidote and what is remedied, contaminated and uncontaminated, are distinct; hence they cannot be mutually identical.'
