答。若但望言陳。即相質二色。皆成不得。若將意就言。即立得相分色也。又解。若小乘未徵問前。即將言就意立。若大乘答後。即將意就言立也。

Answer: If one looks only at the explicit statement, neither of the two kinds of form—nimittabhāga and underlying substance (bimbamātra)—can be established. If one conforms the implicit intention to the words, then the nimittabhāga-form is established. Another explanation: Before the Hīnayāna cross-examines, one establishes it by conforming the words to the implicit intention; after the Mahāyāna replies, one establishes it by conforming the implicit intention to the words.
