問。阿賴耶識。當體是自相。酬善惡因故是果相。受熏持種故是因相。第八既是因果相。於六因中屬何因。向五果中是何果。

Question: The ālayavijñāna in its very substance is the self-characteristic; because it recompenses good and bad causes, it is the result-characteristic; because it receives perfuming and holds seeds, it is the cause-characteristic. Since the eighth consciousness possesses both cause and result characteristics, among the six causes, to which causes does it belong? And among the five results, which result is it?
