Answer: Because of the perfuming of false thoughts, they give rise to the various dharmas; hence it is said that they 'arise from false thoughts'. One might also doubt: 'Since dharmas are citta only, why do I not see it, and what I see is only a different citta?' The explanation says: a 'different citta' is made by the discrimination of false thoughts; hence it is said that 'false thoughts arise'. Since realms are consciousness only and there are no external, different dharmas, therefore all the various discriminations are one's own citta. Thus dust has no characteristics and consciousness does not take itself as an object; therefore without dust, consciousness does not arise, which means citta does not see citta. The Mahāyānasaṃgraha says: 'There is no distinct dharma that can grasp a distinct dharma.' Since grasper and grasped are exhausted, no characteristic can be attained. As for 'When citta arises, various dharmas arise; when citta ceases, various dharmas cease'—
