答。非是業招放無報障。又若有報障而無業障。即第八識。若具有業報二障。即前六識。若業報二障俱無。即第七識。又若唯有別報障。無總報障者。即前六識。若唯有總報障。無別報障者。即第八識。

Answer: It is not recruited by karma, and thus it lacks the obstacle of retribution. Furthermore, if there is the obstacle of retribution but no obstacle of karma, that is the eighth consciousness. If both the obstacle of karma and the obstacle of retribution are fully present, that is the first six consciousnesses. If both obstacles of karma and retribution are absent, that is the seventh consciousness. Moreover, if there is only the obstacle of particular retribution and no obstacle of universal retribution, that is the first six consciousnesses. If there is only the obstacle of universal retribution and no obstacle of particular retribution, that is the eighth consciousness.
