79.12

問。且如一樹。有情共變。而一有情伐用之時。為用自變。為兼用他。若唯自者。餘人變者。應存不亡。樹何不見。若亦用他。何名唯識。

Question: Take a single tree, which sentient beings transform together: when one sentient being cuts it down and uses it, does he use his own transformation, or does he also use others' [transformations]? If it is only his own, then what the other people transformed should remain and not be destroyed; why is the tree no longer seen? If he also uses others', how is it called consciousness-only?
