79.4

識論問云。何故遇善知識。聞說善法。值惡知識。聞。說惡法。若無外一切外境者。彼云何說。若不說者。云何得聞。若不聞者。此云何成。

The Vijñaptimātratāsiddhiśāstra asks: 'Why is it that when one encounters a good friend, one hears good dharmas explained, and when one meets an evil friend, one hears evil dharmas explained? If there are no external sensory objects whatsoever, how do they speak? If they do not speak, how can one hear? If one does not hear, how is this accomplished?'
