85.16

問。入唯識門。觀一切境。自然無相。何用更言破相顯理。復云棄有觀空。若有所破之宗。則立能空之理。既存空法。還成有相之因。若守觀門。豈合無為之道。

Question: Entering the gate of vijñaptimātra, one contemplates that all objects are naturally signless. What need is there to speak further of refuting characteristics to reveal the principle, and moreover of abandoning existence to contemplate emptiness? If there is a tenet to be refuted, then one establishes a principle capable of making it empty. If an empty phenomenon is retained, it turns back into a cause for having characteristics. If one clings to the gate of contemplation, how can it accord with the unconditioned Path?
