答。只為眾生不了自他唯心。橫生彼此。若自達真空。則諸佛終不出世。菩薩亦無功夫。

Answer: It is simply because sentient beings do not understand that self and other are mind-only, and arbitrarily give rise to [the dichotomy of] this and that. If they themselves penetrated true emptiness, then the buddhas would never appear in the world, and bodhisattvas would have no work to do.
