Answer: Ancient explanations say: At the precise time of entering the cessation absorption, although there is no manovijñāna, before it ceased, in the preparatory citta, one made the vow: 'After I enter cessation, if there are sentient beings who ought to hear my teaching of the Dharma or see my deportment, I shall instruct and transform them.' Due to this vow, after entering concentration, the transformation-manifestation seeds in the fundamental consciousness are stimulated, producing active operations. Through the equality wisdom, deportment can be manifested and aroused. However, although the equality wisdom does not directly correspond with the deportment manifested through the vow and aspiration of the sixth, if one wishes to give rise to an equal transformation, the equality wisdom is necessary. The above is still a distinction made according to modes of activity. If discussed in terms of principle, deportment is itself concentration, and concentration is itself deportment, because form and citta have long been suchness.
