Answer: This is the father of all sages, the mother of all buddhas, that from which all tens of thousands of goods arise. How could faith or slander fail to reap a grave retribution? Therefore the Lotus Sūtra says: "Furthermore, like the Great Brahmā Heavenly King, who is the father of all sentient beings, this sūtra is likewise: the father of all noble sages, those in training and beyond training, and those who have aroused the bodhisattva resolve." The Commentary on the Awakening of Faith says: "If one slanders this Dharma, one deeply harms oneself and also harms others, cutting off the seeds of the Three Jewels completely. This is because all tathāgatas attain nirvāṇa relying on this Dharma, and all bodhisattvas practice relying on it, thereby gaining entry into the buddha-wisdom."
