The Anūnatvāpūrṇatvanirdeśasūtra states: “The profound meaning is the ultimate truth; the ultimate truth is the realm of sentient beings; the realm of sentient beings is the tathāgatagarbha; the tathāgatagarbha is the dharmakāya.” Explanation: The citta is the portal of total retention for all phenomena, acting as the true nature of myriad beings; hence it is called the ultimate truth. Because of miscellaneous mental thoughts, it is named “sentient beings”; the realm of this citta is the realm of sentient beings. Arising from the nature of tathatā, it is named the “Tathāgata”; being without any lack or decrease, it is regarded as the “store” (garbha); because it can accumulate merits as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, it is named the dharmakāya. Therefore, the Benevolent King Sūtra states: “The very first single thought is replete with the eighty-four thousand pāramitās.”
