The Sūtra on Resolving Doubts Concerning the Semblance Dharma says: “Today within the assembly, countless multitudes each see differently: some see the Tathāgata enter nirvāṇa; some see the Tathāgata abide in the world for one kalpa, or less than one kalpa, or immeasurable kalpas; some see the Tathāgata’s sixteen-foot body, or see a small body, or see a large body; some see the saṃbhogakāya in the ocean of the Lotus Treasury World expounding the Dharma gate of the mind ground for hundreds of thousands of millions of Śākyamuni Buddhas; some see the dharmakāya identical with empty space, free of discrimination, signless and unobstructed, universally identical with the dharmadhātu; some see this place as mountains, forests, dirt, sand, and gravel; some see the seven treasures; some see this place as the field of practice of the Buddhas of the three times; some see this place as the true Dharma of the inconceivable realm of the Buddhas.” Explanation: Thus we know that the Buddha has no fixed form, but according to consciousness naturally divides into coarse and fine; the sphere has no divergent characteristics, but due to citta falsely perceives short and long. This may be called directly witnessing the Dharma gate, whose principle returns to the mirror of the source.
