A verse in the Āgama says: / 'I am kin unto myself, / Not kin unto another; / A wise person who well tames the self / Then attains rebirth in a good destiny.' / Explanation: Therefore it is said: in the world there is no closer kin than citta; it can be called the true essential for entering the Path, the wondrous gate of practice. If one tames it well, one swiftly ascends to the great fruit. Therefore the Prajñāsūtra says: 'Taming citta is virtuous indeed; taming citta brings about blissful fruits.'
