The Buddhabhāṣita Sūtra says: “The Buddha said: ‘If there are words of a localized place, these are the words of the Māra king, these are words of demonic views; they are not called the Buddha's words. Good sons, if there are words without any localized places, these are called the Buddha's words.’”
Exposition: That which has no words of any localized places is because there is no dharma to be realized, nor is there any wisdom capable of realizing it. Since there is no dharma, how could it be spoken? Simply understand that it is citta-only, and naturally there are no words. Having no words is true speech; therefore it is said: “Having no dharma that can be spoken is called speaking the Dharma.” If one clings to places, or if there is something spoken, all contradicts the fundamental source and fails to see the dharmatā. As it is said: “The retribution and transformation [bodies] are not the true Buddha, nor are they speakers of the Dharma.”
