The second patriarch, Great Master [Huike], said: "Ordinary beings say the ancient is different from the present, and the present is different from the ancient, and that apart from the four great elements there is another dharmakāya. At the moment of understanding, this present mind of the five aggregates is itself the perfectly pure nirvāṇa. This mind is fully endowed with the myriad practices; it is truly called the Great Source." His verse of transmission of the Dharma says: / "Originally, because of the ground, / Seeds are sown due to the ground and flowers grow. / If originally there were no seed, / Flowers also could not grow."
